Since February 2022 the EU Member States Germany and Sweden jointly implement the EU Twinning project “Support to the Namibian Standards Institution” in Namibia. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of the Namibian Standards Institute (NSI) to fulfil its mandate, namely to align national standards to European and international ones. With that the project enhances Namibia’s participation to international trade agreements and to boost its trade and economic growth.

The project will contribute to the implementation of the National Development Plan, which aims to achieve an inclusive, sustainable and equitable economic growth by increasing economic activities, creating employment, reducing poverty and inequality, and by building a skilled and healthy work force. It will also support the implementation of the Government’s Growth at Home Strategy, which is expected to contribute to the National Development Plan by adding value to local production, attracting foreign investments and promoting growth and diversification of Namibia’s export markets.

This project brings together civil servants from the beneficiary administration, the Namibia Standards Institution (NSI) which is an agency of the Namibian Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade (MIT) and the EU Member State consortium represented by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the German Institute for Standardization e.V. (DIN); the German Accreditation Body GmbH (DAkkS), the German Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL), and the German National Metrology Institute (PTB) as well as the Swedish Institute for Standards (SIS), the National Board of Trade Sweden (NBT), and the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment (SWEDAC).

The German Member State Partner are supported by the German National Metrology Institute (PTB) in all administrative and financial matters of this Project.
